Delegate Registration
Event Overview

The Edmonton conference will be held at the Fantasyland Hotel, Edmonton, September 20–21, 2024. Substitute teachers should not attend the Beginning Teachers Conference but should plan to attend the Substitute Teachers Conference (Substitute Teachers' Conference | Alberta Teachers' Association).

Registration is open to teachers in their first two years of classroom teaching who have not previously attended the conference and those teachers new to teaching in the province. Early registration is appreciated as space is limited. Teachers who live in Red Deer and north should register for the Edmonton conference. Teachers who live south of Red Deer should register for the Calgary conference at https://reg.unityeventsolutions.com/se/2023BTCCALG/ATT.

Teachers in charter, federal and private schools must be associate members of the Association to be eligible to attend the Beginning Teachers Conference.

Please work with your school principal, school jurisdiction and local association to facilitate substitute teacher coverage for your attendance at the Beginning Teachers Conference.

Beginning teachers should contact their local association regarding reimbursement for accommodations, travel and subsistence. The Local Grant-In-Aid Regulations and Notes have been included below for your information/reference.

GRANT-IN-AID REGULATIONS AND NOTES
1. Grants-in-aid are intended to help locals with the costs of representation at provincial meetings; they are neither intended to pay the complete costs nor to control locals’ rates of reimbursement of expenses. This form does not apply to representative assemblies or summer conference. For all other provincially called meetings, locals are requested to submit claims within one month of the activity. Claims submitted more than six months after the activity will not be paid.

2. A separate form is required for each representative or group of representatives for whom the information is identical. If the claim applies to several representatives, attach a list. Grants will only be paid for those who have registered at the meeting. All claims relating to a given meeting should be submitted together.

3. Enter either the representative’s school location or residence location.

4. (a) No claim is permitted for locals within whose geographic boundaries the meeting is held.
    (b) The Association uses a standard table of distances; it determines distance by shortest paved route, from/to city centres; an extract for any local is available on request. If air transportation is used, only actual airfare, not parking or taxi, is paid.
    (c) Locals may claim for travel by car on the following basis:
         1 to 3 representatives—1 car per representative;
         4 to 9 representatives—3 cars;
         10 or more representatives—1 car per 3 representatives or fraction thereof.

5. (a) No claim is permitted for locals within whose geographic boundaries the meeting is held.
    (b) Only when accommodation is used and required will a claim be allowed. “Required” is obviously a judgment call; claims which appear unreasonable will be rejected by Finance staff and the local may appeal such decision to the Finance Committee. A letter addressed to the committee secretary should set forth the basis of appeal.
